It’s still a shock, to me that Buzzy has passed.
Buzz had several facets to his personality. I didn’t get to see the side that he presented to the sport world and the characters who passed through his life.
I did get to see his physical abilities through lacrosse games, basketball and football, though. If Buzz had the ball, look out. He took off down the court or field with the speed of a deer. He passed his opponents and left them in the dust, leaving you to wonder how he could accomplish the task.
I only saw him as a perfect gentleman with many sound thoughts and evaluations of his friends, acquaintances and family.
He spoke kindly of his nephew, Ron and his family and he made mention of Sandie and Donna often.
I will miss my visits and lunches, but there is some comfort in knowing he won’t be suffering the pain that his Chrones desease presented.
Thank-you Buzz for all that you taught me as a young girl.
I will never forget your unconditional love, your kindness and sharing of your family. Until we meet again, valorie

Buzzy’s friend Valorie advised me of Buzzy’s dire health situation a few weeks ago and suddenly he was gone.
I’m an old Como Lake High School friend where Buzz and I were in the same Home Room from grades 9-12.
I first met Buzz when we were about 11 years old, played lacrosse on the same bantam team in New Westminster’s, (Sapperton’s) Hume Park. Our team name (jersey sponsors) were the ‘Sapperton Merchants’ and the ‘Sapperton Pastimes’.
Buzz grew up in the Mountain View neighbourhood of Coquitlam where some other boys from that neighbourhood that played on our lacrosse team were his brother Eric, Bob Blake and Doug Wallsmith.
I can remember winter times at School where there would be some rare virgin ice on a pond so naturally we couldn’t pass that up and would play Hookey to play Hockey.
Buzz’y appeared to cruise through high school with seemingly little effort but decent marks. The late Colin Miller was Buzzy’s inseperable School buddy, and it was a rare occassion to see one of them without the other.
After school years, the Brandstrom’s family home was always a welcome place where friends could socially meet, casually stop by for a visit and chat over a few beers.
I last visited Buzz at the seniors home in Maple Ridge a few years ago when we reminised some of our old time capers and had a lot of laughs.
He looked different with the long woodsmans beard and all but was still the same old Buzzy who liked to tell storeys and laugh.

Very sorry to hear about Buzzy. I lived on the corner of Foster and Fairview most of my life and knew Buzzy when he lived on Robson. I was a bit younger than him by 3 years but he always had time for a joke or two. A great guy.
