Hazel was my Mother’s youngest sister and closer to my age than to many of her siblings. I remember when Hazel was about twenty, she moved from Alberta to live with our family in Vancouver and she got a “wartime” job. We fondly referred to our white coverall Aunt as Rosie the Riveter…Over the years, I did not see a great deal of her but every visit was memorable. In fact, the last time I went to Hollyrood Manor – it was bingo afternoon – and being the bingo champion she was, Hazel opted to join the game rather than visit with me…the time before that, it turned out to be Happy Hour Afternoon, so after a walk and visit out in the garden, we enjoyed our “limit of two” while we had a great visit and shared memories and laughter. Aunt Hazel’s passing marks the end of Mother’s siblings with the exception of Ethel, who, although a cousin by birth, became one of a large extended family of the Henry Talson group. Hazel enjoyed the love and support of her family and, although we all will miss her, I am happy she enjoyed a long life and was able to get herself around right up until her final hours. Rest in Peace Aunt Hazel.
