Dear Jerry – Nico and I were shocked to see the announcement of Joan’s passing, and we both want to express our sympathy to you – and Eddy, though we never met him. It brought home to us that we have been remiss in keeping up the contact for longer than we realized, as we had no idea she was even ill. We always enjoyed our visits with the two of you. It was always fun to hear her talking about her outdoor activities and her decided opinions about what the Alouette naturalists were doing and should be doing. And Nico has always liked to talk to a fellow birder, and enjoyed hearing about her experiences. I’ll get in touch directly in a little while, but I think you’ll have too much on your mind right now.
