Juanita Williams was a gentle soul whom I met at a facility in mission bc for troubled native youth I was only there for six months but she and her family Ben and Laura and corina had a lasting impression on me . I will always remember the yummy chicken chow mien she always made for lunch at the facility swo weles lalem at saint Mary’s . I still often go by there and think about those people that showed me my native side . Juanita will be missed .

Juanita was such a special kind hearted woman. Despite the challenges she had in her life she remained strong. I remember her visits to my office fondly. We would sit and eat goodies and look up her Facebook so she could see pictures of family and friends. She would light up and laugh when seeing her family and messages from loved ones. Speaking to her sister Irene on the phone would give her so much joy. They would talk about the past and laugh together. Juanita was a generous, creative, passionate and a determined person. She would never turn down an opportunity to participate in activities at MSMH. Juanita loved people and especially loved her family. She will be missed very deeply by many. My heart and prayers go out to her family and all those that loved her. She left the world a brighter place and I am honoured to have known her.

Juanita was a strong and loving person and I will always look back fondly on our walks in beacon hill park; the sunny days we enjoyed together; and her appreciation for all living things. She loved watching and feeding the ducks at beacon hill park, strolling to the ocean for a nice view, the sea breeze, and a warm cup of coffee. She was generous, always offering to buy me things and often wanting to purchase treats for her family. Though speaking was challenging for her, Juanita taught me that words are only a small part of communication. She wore grief and joy on her face and taught me to get out of my head and be still with emotions that didn't need a narrative. I could tell she had been through a lot; that her life hadn't always been easy. Despite the obstacles life dealt her, Juanita found joy in many simple things. Once I brought my dog along for a visit, and, while getting something from my bag, I heard Juanita giggle and turned to see her feeding him Werther candies. Needless to say he was a big fan of her, too. Juanita gave me a big hug, and told me she loved me every time we parted ways. She was not afraid to show that she cared, and I am truly grateful to have had her as a friend. To all of her family: she loved you fiercely, and you are in my thoughts.

Juanita came to art group faithfully every Friday and did such beautiful work. She always did nature scenes. She was a very special lady who showed much love through her beautiful smile and warm eyes. I found her an inspiration on how she managed to show joy and positivity each and every day. And she always said yes with such relish. I enjoyed her very much and will miss her but very glad to have had the opportunity to have known her.
