My condolences on the passing of your father. My parents, Victor and Isabell Boggis were good friends of John and Ann back in the old west island days. I fondly remember the nights listening to them playing piano and singing. They sure knew how to have a good time.
My parents are both gone now but I have inherited a large number of cassette tapes that my dad recorded. I just happened to be listening to them recently and heard your father singing. If you don't have any, I would be happy to send them to you. I live in Victoria now.
Take care
Kathy Chan (Boggis)

How do I choose just one of my most cherished memories of Uncle John...there are too many and I have enough to fill a book. Our conversations by phone usually started by us talking loudly to each other in Armenian! We tended to replay the same sequence over and over and it never got boring, and it was a time that I always looked forward to. The topics of our conversations were vast...there were very few topics that we didn't leave untouched. We would always have a great laugh about table wines that earned more respect than they were given based on their price. I remember we often talked about Cuvee St Pierre, a wine that we both appreciated (and of course we would always mention that my Dad, John's brother, would readily disagree with us!).
Some of my most enjoyable memories had to do with the way in which Uncle John would set up his BBQ...they were very different from mine and he would also comment that they were different from Andy's methods. I laugh now remembering all of his colorful comments about Andy and I thinking we knew better than him when it came to cooking on a BBQ. However, in the end, whenever we were at his house, I assumed the role of chef and relieving him of his tasks (which I think Aunt Ann appreciated!).
As a kid growing up, my whole family (Mom, Dad, and sister Lucine) would look forward to Christmas dinner at Aunt Ann and Uncle John's house. Uncle John would specifically open a sparkling wine for my Mom and my Mom would bring him one of his favorite plates - baba ganoush. In 2011, when my wife Kelly and I moved to Pointe-Claire, we were a 2-minute walk away from their place on Lakeshore. Whenever our friends would meet them, Uncle J (as he became known) was always a big hit with our friends - he was enjoyable to talk with and conversations flowed easily. One time, Uncle John was on our back deck and our neighbour Scott was outside doing a BBQ. When Uncle John noticed that Scott's wine glass was empty, he walked down our patio stairs, over to the fence and said: "Hi, I'm John, Anthony's Uncle...your glass seems empty" and then he proceeded to slip the tip of the bottle through the fence to fill up his glass.
I know I will now have a permanent void in my life where Uncle John used to be. At the same time, I count myself lucky to have had a great man like him in my life for as long as we did.
Uncle John, enjoy your reunion with your family now. Until we meet again.

Hi Dad...I am so sad you had to leave unexpectedly. But I am so very grateful for your peaceful departure. You certainly earned it. I am sorry you were more alone these past few years after Mom went. Finally you are back with Mom, Nanny, Doda, and your brother and sister. Together, you can keep a good eye us, trying to live here without you. You are always part of me, in my soul and in my thoughts everyday. You lived a long, active and beautiful life, but I guess all good things come to end in this world. We will have to make up for lost time when we are together again, as you use to say.
Thank you for your unconditional love, being there for us our whole lives, and always being available for anything.
I will miss our weekly coffee and muffin breaks, travelling together, talking about food and hanging out.
Say hi to Mom and the gang up there. We are watching for your signs. Don't forget to visit us and check in every now and then too.
Love you Dad...Mike xxoo

Our deepest Condolences to the Merakian Family
John was a good friend and neighbour to us. We’ve have had many conversations in his garage with an occasional glass of wine. Passing back and forth produce bought in bulk .If I gave him a cucumber, sure enough the next day he would have a few peppers for me. Lol. He knew most people in complex by first name, as he was friendly to everyone.
You are very much missed our friend and neighbour of 7 years

We were so happy that we were able to spend time with John last Spring in Victoria. John was genuine and a man of many talents. He truly cared and was interested in you as a person. He had a gift of making anyone in a room feel comfortable and was a joy to spend time with. We admired John's "joie de vivre". We were honored to be part of his life for so many years. Our condolences to all that were touched by his love. Rest in peace John.

John was such a happy, friendly neighbor in our Pitt Meadows Townhouse complex. He was an active member of the Strata Council during our start up years. John always had time to say hello or chat when anyone walked by his garage across from the mailbox. We will miss you John, rest in peace.
