Obituary of Lolita Borja Dumbrique
On January 22, 2024, the family of Lolita Dumbrique said a loving farewell to a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, cousin and aunt. She passed over at the age of 81 years.
She was born on January 18, 1943 in Cabanatuan City and was raised in Manila, Philippines. After receiving a Bachelors Degree in Dietetics from the University of the Philippines, she emigrated to Canada in 1970.
Over the years, Lolita’s journey would take her from Quebec, and then to Ontario and Alberta, and finally to British Columbia. Along the way, she would marry and raise two daughters, spending most of her family and work life in the Lower Mainland. For many years, she worked as a Dietitian at Riverview Hospital. She was well-known for her professionalism, energy and enthusiasm, and colourful personality.
During retirement, Lolita’s zest for life continued as she embarked on many adventures and explored various interests. Travel, Hawaiian dance, ukulele, gardening, sewing and crochet were some of her favourite hobbies. She was active at the Maple Ridge Seniors’ Centre and also within the Catholic Womens’ League and Legion of Mary. She made many wonderful friends in all these circles, and was known as a magnet recruiter for these groups.
Lolita epitomized what it means to have led a vibrant and full life. She had a great sense of humour and really knew how to have fun! She was beautiful on the outside, but it is her generous fellowship and natural joy that made her the most beautiful. She loved God above all, and this was closely followed by her love for her grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her brother Minito Dumbrique. She is survived by her daughters Melanie Fegarido and Melissa Hogg (Charles), and seven grandchildren. She leaves behind her sisters Doris Skazlic and Cynthia Couch, brother Edmundo Dumbrique (Gina).
We rejoice that she is with Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
