Obituary of Morris Burton Elliott

Please share a memory of Morris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
November 27, 1939 Paddockwood Saskatchewan – June 30, 2011 Maple Ridge British Columbia It is with great sadness that we announced the passing of our loving husband and father. Morris leaves behind his wife of 47 years Edith, his daughter Lenore (Bryan Deagle) and his grandchildren Braedyn and René Ann. Pre-deceased by his parents Effie and Burt Elliott and his eldest brother Olin Elliott. Morris loved the great outdoors and was never happier than when out camping, hunting or canoeing. Before he became a professional archer, Morris represented Canada at the 1971 World Archery Championships in York, England. Over the years he won many tournaments and trophies. After archery Morris became involved in traditional rifles. Summers he spent camping and shooting muzzle loaded long rifles at black powder rendezvous. His daughter Lenore joined him at many of these events. After retiring from the carpentry trades in 1996 he started his dream job and opened Kanaka Creek Canoes. Here he created beautiful hand crafted wood and canvas canoes. Morris was in high demand as a restorer and builder. Morris’ canoes have been shipped to Japan, Switzerland, the USA and across Canada; several have been used in movies, TV documentaries and print ads over the years. Edith and Lenore would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. M. Milewski for his care and kindness over the years. Thank you also to, the first floor RNs, LPN’s and Care Staff at the Maple Ridge Seniors Village for all of their compassion, caring and thoughtfulness. A celebration of Morris’s life will be held at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, 224th Street, Maple Ridge, on July 23rd, 2011 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers Edith and Lenore would appreciate a donation to the Parkinson’s Society of BC in Morris’ name. Deeply loved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend.
