Bob Foster started a close association with my family when he volunteered through the seniors group to befriend my Dad, Archie, who was in need of support and friendship at the time. Bob and Dad became great friends with Bob visiting my parents home on a weekly basis for many years. When Dad passed away in 2005 Bob continued visiting my Mum (Rita) and was a constant friend until she passed in 2016. Bob’s visits were etched in the weekly calendar of events for my parents for over 20 years and their time together was generally spent discussing a wide range of topics and putting the world to rights.
I live in NZ and visited my parents often for extended periods with my children as they grew up. We all looked forward to Bob’s weekly visits, especially my son Leo, as Bob was one of the few people during our stays in Canada who could talk, with considerable knowledge, about world cricket, rugby and of course premier football.
We are so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. His friendship to our family was immeasurable - a constant friend, kind, generous and a true gentleman.
Our condolences to Bob’s family.
Rest In Peace.

My wife, Marilynn and I were privileged to become friends of Bob and Suzie when I was transferred by the Bank of Montreal to Chilliwack in Sept. 1960. Bob was accountant and I was his assistant and he was a great boss. Apart from working together, we hiked, grew a veggie garden, watched NHL hockey on TV at his mothers – she had the best TV. Their young children and ours were close to the same ages. Bob and
Suzie were kind to us which we really appreciated. Bob was transferred I was shortly thereafter but we kept in touch and our paths crossed again when he was manager in Quesnel and I was Sr. Acct. Manager
in Wms. Lake. I left the Bank in 1978 but each year at Christmas without fail we each wrote long
letters full of info on our families. When they settled in Maple Ridge we visited them several times. Now this treasured friendship of 59 years has drawn to a close and we confirm this good man has lead a selfless life helping and enriching those who knew him.

I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing (just heard of it today). We were BMO pensioners and knew each other since he was the Accountant in Chilliwack Branch – I was in Agassiz…close to 50years ago. Later I worked in Whitehorse after his stay there and in our last few years we worked together in Langley. I have tremendous respect for his ability to teach fledgling lenders and the tons of common sense sprinkled with humor he could can upon to get his meaning across. People who worked with him loved the relationship. Since retirement we saw and talked to each other every so often. He would send a postcard on his UK trips and we would try to do likewise, however, we were away in Feb without doing so and regret that last lost opportunity. I will circulate his obit amongst the pensioner group and am very sorry for your loss. An excellent man, mentor and example.

In 1969 a bunch of us young rascals worked for Bob in Whitehorse as he tried his best to educate us in the ways of the business world. I will never forget the day he dragged us single guys out of our accomodations above the old branch and drove us out into the wilderness to chop down a very tall Christmas tree for the branch. He was dressed like/looked like Paul Bunion. Unfortunately I never came in contact with him again throughout my 37 years with BMO. He was a wonderful boss and educator! Sorry for your loss.

Mr Bob Foster, may he RIP .I had the privilege of working for him in Whitehorse,YT in the late sixties, when we as youngsters were learning the basics of Banking & growing up in BMO family, when the Bank was a Family. Yes, a true English Gentleman to the core. He always had time/ patience to help/assist/ train us youngsters as you would from your parents. My only regret is that I was unable to see him when I visited Maple Ridge a few times but he was always away assisting/ helping other seniors. He was very generous with his time/advice for other people.

I had the honour and privilege to work alongside Bob for several years while supporting the development of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Katzie Seniors Network. He was kind, compassionate and committed to bettering the lives of seniors living in our community. His patience, good humour and tenacity inspired all who had the good fortune to be part of his life. Through his efforts and those of his peers we now have a strong and well connected Network working to our common goal of improving the quality of life for vulnerable seniors. He was a dedicated volunteer and made a significant contribution to our community and I am grateful I was able to know and love him. I will cherish the memories we shared and carry his love and light into the world with me – I will miss him.
