Obituary of Walter George Freshwater

passed away Wednesday the 13th of August at the Ridge Meadows Hospital. Walter was born in Duncan BC on the 4th of September 1929. After studying at UBC Walter joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce and was posted to many different locations including Duncan, Chemainus, Grand Forks, Vernon, Revelstoke, Nelson, New Westminster, and Vancouver. After Walter’s retirement he embarked on a new career as a volunteer including holding executive positions in the Lions Club International. An incomplete list of other organizations he offered his time to include the White Rock Hospice Society and the Canadian Cancer Society. He also maintained his membership as a Mason in the Grand Forks BC Mason’s Lodge. Travel was also a passion and Walter travelled to too many countries to list. The last few years of Walter’s life were spent at Willow Manor and The Baillie House in Maple Ridge. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to each and everyone at these two places for making his final years the best that they could be. Thanks must also be given to the BC Alzheimer’s Society, Fraser Health, the Ambulance Service, and the staff at the Ridge Meadows Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Lorraine, brothers Noel and Aleck and survived by step-sons John Santics, Phil Santics, nephews Dick Freshwater, Bob Freshwater, and niece Linda Back. Viewing at the Garden Hill Cremation & Funeral Services, 11765 – 224th Street, Maple Ridge, BC on Wednesday 20th of August between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 pm. He never gave up on life and is missed.
